2010 February 16
Canberra Districts Aquarium Society February Meeting
Date: Tuesday 16th February 2010
Time: Meeting room doors open for members at 7:50pm for an 8pm sharp start
Place: The Harmonie German Club - 49 Jerrabomberra Avenue, Narrabundah
Last Meeting:
We had an extraordinary meeting to address a few constitutional issues and to refresh some of the by-laws. These changes were necessary given the somewhat smaller club that we have theses days as opposed to the glory days of years gone by. In summary:
- . We now have an executive committee comprised on of President, Vice President, treasurer and secretary and the general committee members;
. We can only have one executive committee member that has a commercial interest in the aquarium industry
. The roles of the general committee members have been moved out to the by-laws
. A good behaviour by-law has been added
. Membership fees have been updated
Now that we have updated the constitution and bylaws we can get on with keeping and promoting responsible fish keeping.
Following the business end of the meeting we had MJay give a presentation on CO2 and planted aquarium. It was very informative and very useful at demystifying how to set it up correctly.
Whats On:
This month we will be doing some (depending on time) species profiles of fish that are on the conservation list with a aim at promoting the breeders award/conservation program to get everyone involved. Laurie will be giving a presentation on Chalinochromis sp. Ndoboi and African Cichlid from Lake Tanganyika. We also hope to have time for a presentation to humble endler or another fish. We might also have time to give you a quick run down again about how to get these wonderful club sponsored fish.
And all the wonderful, usual stuff:
Library
Please return any books you have borrowed so others may use it. If you have any enquires or suggestions please see the Librarian.
Trade Table
A committee member will be only too willing to assist you with the purchase of all your dry goods needs.
Mini Auction
Both Members & Visitors are all eligible to bid on lots. Please remember a fast auction is a good auction so if we can please keep the noise down.
I have heard rumours that an 8FT planted tank is being torn down so there could be a large amount of plants being sold at the auction, so bring along some cash so you can fill those tanks up.
For a list of auction rules, the auction proceedings or to print out a auction form please check http://drupal.cdas.org.au/content/auctions
Mini Raffle
Raffle tickets will be available to purchase from the trade table before the meeting and during the mid-break. We will have our usual range of dry and new electrical goods and maybe some fish as well
Breeders Award
Please hand in any breeders forms you have completed so far.
For more information about the breeders award program please check http://drupal.cdas.org.au/content/breeders-award-program
Species Conservation Project
We handed out 4 lots of endler guppies last month to members from Tim and Christine who had bred them up from the fry Jesse raised. So it appears as though our conservation program is starting to work. Also there were some Celestial Danios fry up for sale at the mini auction also progeny from the parents that Rene is breeding. The committee is also considering obtaining more fish from list all we need is suitably qualified breeders to put their hands up to take them. It is good to see the vision come to life.
